Another Canoe the Wild Bonaventure River whitewater canoe trip on the Gaspe Peninsula of Quebec. Beginning in the Chic Choc Mountains ending 7 days later near the ocean. We had great water levels and began the trip with a fire ban which was shortly lifted early in the trip. A campfire was permitted with a screen during the fire ban. A stove with plenty of propane was used as a backup and came in handy. We’ll do this trip again in 2024, Watch for our 2024 schedule which will be out shortly.
Canoe the Wild guided trip with a group of students from Fort Kent and Madawaska sponsored by the Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation. Students learned about the logging history of the Allagash and interviewed two park rangers and a game warden. Students also learned how to paddle in class II whitewater, canoe poling, how to start of campfire with a spark, knots and their uses, and cooking and baking over an open fire. Students also learned about career opportunities as guides, rangers, and game wardens. Part of the discussion with students was about ingredients for success including being organized, have good people skills, self motivation, being respectful of others, and giving your best while working and being mentored by others. Here are a few pictures of our 2022 canoe tripping season mostly on the Allagash. We’re excited to get back into Canada in 2023 and back on the Bonaventure River in Quebec and the NE Mistissibi River farther to the north!
