Maine Moose Hunting Guide and Outfitter

June 18, 2026 By Dave Conley

Dave Conley of Canoe the Wild has been offering guided Maine moose hunts teaming up with Andrew Gibbs of Marsh River Outfitters and a great group of Maine hunting guides for many years. Our remote drive to wall tent moose camp is located in the North Maine Woods in WMD 1 (zone 1). We lease our location from the North Maine Woods, have insurance and a commercial use permit to do so.  The northern most Wildlife Management Districts (WMD) 1,2,4 & 5 have the highest concentration of moose where the most moose permits are awarded. The September and October moose hunting seasons coincide with the rut, September being peak rut.  We’ve been offering these hunts for many seasons with great success. Last season we went 9 for 12 on bulls. Below are two of those bulls harvested during the 2025 season. If you have drawn of permit in another WMD and desire to hunt with us, we can assist you with swapping your permit for zone 1.  Remote Maine moose hunt and wall tent camp (Below) We’ve been quartering and packing out moose for over 15 years. This allows us to get on foot in pursuit of your moose. simply riding the roads hoping to bump into a moose is becoming a thing of the past as we’ve seen bulls over the seasons, especially the older bulls become more weary and learn to avoid the roads for survival’s sake.

5 Day Allagash Canoe Trip with St John Valley Schools

June 1, 2025 By Dave Conley

Here are images of our 5 day Allagash Canoe Trip that we outfitted and guided for the Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation Youth on the Allagash Trip (YOTA). Students nor only learned about the history of the region, and heard from the head park ranger Trevor OLeary about the park and future job opportunities. Students learned about potential guiding opportunities as  future Maine guides. Students learned lots of skills including canoe poling, paddling in whitewater and proper strokes, making a fire with a spark, fly fishing, cooking over an open fire and more.  While this trip was a custom trip for students, Canoe the Wild offers open session trips season long for individuals, families and groups to take part in. Visit our 2025 schedule here for more information and availability.

Our 2024 Season in Pictures

December 27, 2024 By Dave Conley

The 2024 season was a busy one with twenty outings and over 175 guests in attendance. We were back in Quebec Canada again with 2 whitewater trips, in June on the Bonaventure River and in July on the NE Mistissibi River. We had six outings on the St Croix River, eleven Allagash trips and a wildlife photography workshop at a remote Maine lake. Generous grant funding sources  enabled over 40 teens to connect with nature while on the Allagash and St Croix Rivers. These outings were made possible by the Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation (AWWF)  and the Maine Outdoor Learning Initiative Grant. Our 2025 schedule has been up for sometime now with some trips already full. We’ll be back on the Bonaventure and NE Mistissibi Rivers this 2025 season. Our wildlife and moose photography workshop is happening again in late June. You can check out all our 2025 outings by clicking on our 2025 schedule. Why don’t you join us this season? you can sign up as an individual, with friends or as a family. Keep in mind, we do custom trips for private groups as well.
