Dave’s 11th time on the Northeast Mistissibi River, this time with a small group from Millersville PA. We caught lots of brook trout and pike and paddle/poled endless class I-III rapids. surprisingly only one short portage and several linings in 10 days. Allagash Trip with the AWWF Youth Program, July 5-9, 2024
Another Canoe the Wild 5 day canoe trip, this one for the Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation YOTA, Youth On The Allagash program. The outing involved paddling over 40 miles, setting up and taking down camp, hearing from a park ranger about his seasonal job, exploring the logging museum at Churchill Dam, reading from the AWWF Explorer booklet, learning to be good stewards of the environment, taking on leadership roles, meal preparation, cooking over an open fire, canoe poling, whitewater canoeing, Students also learned about career opportunities as a Maine guide and had fun with a moose calling contest! and more. Bonaventure River Canoe Trip 2024
Our 2024 Bonaventure River Canoe trip is in the books! This is a June classic with great scenery, endless rapids and only a 6 hour drive from northern Maine. Canoe the Wild is accepting applications and deposits for June of 2025. See our 2025 schedule here.
Penobscot Whitewater with East Grand School, August 26-28, 2022
A whitewater retreat to the Penobscot River with the East Grand middle school students. Students hiked to Blue Berry Ledges and took part in whitewater canoeing and rafting. Canoe the Wild oversaw the whitewater canoeing. Elbridge Cleaves, Scott and Wayne Daggett provided river safety and canoe retrieval at the Big Eddy. Five veteran Outdoor Ed students took on leadership roles assisting Tammi Matula & Jill Plummer with planning, cooking and serving meals, setting up and taking down camp and cleanup. Sam Plummer who graduated from East Grand School in 2017 shared with the students his experience in high school and the benefits of getting out of your comfort zone for growth and opportunity. Many parents and others assisted with the retreat as well.
5 Day Allagash Trip, July 1-5, 2022
A recent guided and outfitted canoe trip on the Allagash with Canoe the Wild. Many were new to canoe camping and enjoyed gaining skills such as whitewater canoeing and proper canoe strokes, canoe poling, starting a fire with flint and steel, knots and practical uses of, wilderness baking and how to be comfortable while on a wilderness canoe trip. Canoe the Wild has several openings on 5 & 7 days trips this August & September….why not join us!
