Overnight canoe trip with the 8th graders of the Helen S Dunn School in Greenbush. Students learned proper canoemanship including the draw to the hip, cross draw, pry and stern draw as well as in camp skills such as fire building, setting up and taking down camp. Outdoor education, this Allagash trip with the East Grand School outdoor education students placed an emphasis on student leadership and putting into practice skills learned back home. Students worked throughout the year learning skills such as fire building using a spark to light the fire, cooking meals over an open fire, map & compass, canoemanship, canoe poling, and much more. 2nd year students Maddie and Phoebe came up with a menu shopped for and packed out the trip. Our first canoe trip of the season and the earliest we have been on the Allagash! Our custom canoe trip group had a great time! Early spring is a good time to miss the bugs but the water is cold so being prepared with the right clothing, gear and being on top of your game is critical. We caught several nice brook trout, 10″-15″. While most of our canoe trips are full for 2021, we do have a few remining openings including a father and young son St. Croix Trip, 3 day family St. Croix River trip and labor day weekend trip. Our 2022 schedule is up and we are accepting deposits for that season. Up next is our St. John River Canoe trip!
