Maine Sea Duck Hunting

Maine sea duck hunting for Common Eiders, Old Squaws (Long Tails), from Bankes layout boats and ledge hunts. Puddle-diver duck and sea duck hunting combos.

Contact Andrew Gibbs (text/call 207-323-9713) to get in on a sea duck hunt for the 2021-22 season!

Sea Duck Hunting on the Maine Coast

Andrew Gibbs, one of our Canoe the Wild Guides offers  guided sea duck hunts on Maine’s rugged coast. Recently, I had the pleasure of taking part on a hunt in mid coast Maine, January of 2020.  I was impressed with Andrew’s competent guiding abilities, quality equipment (boat, layouts and decoys), his knowledge of the sport and careful attention to detail. Andrew is passionate about guiding duck hunters and will work hard to produce results for you!

Sea duck Hunting from Ledge and Layout Boats

Maine’s rugged and rocky coastline is home to some of the best sea duck hunting in the east. Hunt for common eiders, surf scoters, white-winged scoters, common scoters, and old squaws (Longtails). Here at Marsh River Outfitters we are situated on the Maine coast (mid coast and Downeast Maine) with some of the best feeding areas for sea ducks. As a result, hunting migrating and resident birds are highly successful.  Guided hunts take place from our sea worthy Bankes Goliath duck hunting boat, Bankes layout boats and Ledge hunting. Depending on the weather we will use all three of these methods.

Puddle Duck and Diver Duck Hunting Combos

We offer combo hunts for puddle-diver duck and sea ducks. Hunt for Black ducks, common goldeneyes, buffleheads, mallards, red-breasted and common mergansers. Marsh River Outfitters also offer hunts on Cape Cod, Massachusetts the last two weeks of our season for customers wanting to hunt the sandy dunes of the cape with options such as hunting for Atlantic Brant.

A Typical Day

Meet up in the Belfast area well before first light, travel to, launch, and motor to our hunting area setting decoys and layout boats waiting for sunrise. Hunt until mid day or longer if we haven’t limited out.

2022-23 Season: Nov. 7-Jan. 7

Pricing: $400 per person per day, $1300 for 4 people. Add  $150 for lodging per night, 1-4 people.
